The Pineville Mountain Lions roared to their first win of the Brad Levy era on Tuesday night with a 78-59 thumping of the Red Bird Cardinals.
“It feels good to start the season off with a win,” said Levy. “The most encouraging part to me about the whole game is that we didn’t even play near our best basketball and still came away with a win.”
Pineville had 10 players in the scoring column for the game with four players in double digits. Senior Clay Goodin led the Mountain Lions with 20 points. Keean Fuson, Landon Couch and Dalton Mason all had 10 points each.
Reed Baker and Sean Phipps had seven apiece. Tristian Hubbard and Austin Fuson had five points each. Ian Middleton and Eli Thompson added two points each.
Couch led the Mountain Lions in rebounding with six. He was followed by Phipps with five. Goodin added three boards to his 20-point performance. Evan Biliter, Thompson and K. Fuson added a pair of rebounds each. Hubbard, Brenden King, Ashantee Agnew, A. Fuson and Dalton all added one rebound each.
“I thought we did a good job defensively and did a good job of getting up and down the floor. We ran all night and kept our intensity up with the exception of the very end of the game. We are just going to keep working to keep getting better every day, but it’s a great way to start the season off. I’m proud of our guys tonight.”
With the win, Pineville notched their first win of the season and improved to 1-0. They were slated to take on the Thomas Walker Pioneers (1-2) at home on Thursday.
