Head coach Josh De Lauer, and assistant coaches Dominic Proffitt, Matt Brahman, Kenny Houston, Joe Woody, & Todd Fuson pose with their superbowl trophy after a 25-0 victory over North Laurel.
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Middlesboro football. The 5th and 6th grade Yellow Jackets won their conference championship on Saturday, followed by the 7th and 8th grade team winning theirs as well. Not to be outdone, the Middlesboro youth football team, comprised of seven and eight year olds won their “Superbowl” this past week as well, blanking North Laurel 25-0 in the championship game.
The Jaguars weren’t the only team to be shut out by the Yellow Jackets this season. Middlesboro played as good of defense as you could possibly play, holding every opponent they faced this season to zero points, including a 44-0 drubbing of the Knox Central Panthers.
“It was pretty incredible that we didn’t allow a single point to be scored all season,” said Middlesboro assistant coach Dominic Proffitt. “We had some great leadership on the field and a will to execute at the highest level possible.”
Much like the other coaches in the community, Proffitt feels like the future of Middlesboro football is very bright. “I believe the future is bright around here,” he said. “If we can keep these guys together throughout their schooling, Middlesboro could become a serious threat in the future.”
Watching his team win the championship was a cyclical moment for Proffitt. “Capping off the season with the Superbowl win was great. Watching these young guys come together as a team and grow together is what it’s all about.”
