Man arrested on theft, fugitive charges

A fugitive from North Carolina was arrested in Corbin in connection with a vehicle that was stolen from Middlesboro.
Michael Brandon Holmes, 40, of Tabor City, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (automobile), reckless driving, operating on a suspended license, and fugitive from another state.
Thursday morning, officer Steve Douglas with the Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement initiated a traffic stop after he had witnessed the vehicle being driven recklessly.
Douglas spoke with Holmes who indicated he was a fugitive out of Iredell County, N.C. on charges of larceny of motor vehicles and assault with a deadly weapon.
Additionally, officers discovered Holmes’ driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle he was operating was reported stolen by the Middlesboro Police Department.
Holmes remains in the Laurel County Correctional Center. Douglas is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by CVE Officer Tyler Teaney.
