Golfers took to the fairways and greens of Wasioto Winds in Pineville on Friday to participate in the Bell County Basketball Golf Scramble to help raise money to support the Bobcats basketball team.
“This is a great way to get people involved,” said Bell County coach Brad Sizemore. “A lot of alumni come back and participate to help support the program. It’s a great fundraiser for our basketball team.
“It’s been a really great turnout. We’ve had a great group of guys show up. It’s been a good day. It’s a great way to raise some money for a good cause, and we are having a blast with it.”
With Wasioto Winds sitting 2.7 miles away from Bell County High School, access to the course and a close partnership with club administration has proven to be beneficial for the fundraiser.
“This course is absolutely great,” said Sizemore. “It’s here in the state park, and it’s beautiful. I’ve been out here myself several times. When you’ve got access to a place like this, it’s a huge plus. Donnie Caldwell and Matt Gann helped me put this thing together, and they’ve been a great help. When you have to guys like them that you can ask questions and things, it’s extremely beneficial.”
“We also had Coca-Cola bottling company helps us out by supplying drinks and things like that, (and) Long’s Pic-Pac helped us with the food. We had a bunch of sponsors to help us out and over 25 hole sponsors. It’s been a community effort, and it’s a good way to raise some money and have some fun at the same time.”
