HARROGATE, Tenn. — The LMU Men’s & Women’s Cross Country squads will kick off the 2019 season with a short visit to Greeneville, Tenn. for the Tusculum Open Sept. 6.
Both the men and women will run identical schedules highlighted by three potential visits to Wingate, N.C.
Following the opening run at Tusculum, the Railsplitters will make their first visit to Wingate for the Bulldog Stampede/Conference & Regional Preview on Sept. 21. The squads will return to Wingate for the SAC Conference Championships on Oct. 26 and qualifiers from that event will run at Wingate a third time in the Southeast Regional Championship on Nov. 9.
“With Wingate hosting both conference and regionals, I felt it important to see the course as well as get a gauge of where we are against conference and regional foes at mid-season,” explained cross country coach Jeremy Donahue.
Following the Sept. 21 Bulldog Stampede, LMU will compete at the Upstate Invite in Spartanburg, S.C. on Oct. 5 and follow that up with the Fast Cats Invitational in Owensboro on Oct. 12.
“The venues we are running at are very similar courses to the past couple of seasons,” said Donahue. “They provide the team with a variety of terrain and competition to prepare for the postseason meets.”
Last season, the men’s team finished fourth in the South Atlantic Conference meet and 11th in the Southeast Regional Meet. The LMU women posted an eighth place finish in the SAC event.
