The Pineville City Police are teaming up with Walgreens to help Pineville Independent Schools with school supplies.
“We partnered with Walgreens in Pineville to get school supplies for kids that need them at the Pineville City School System,” Police Chief Kyle Dunn explained. “They are going to have an event before the opening of school where they set up and have inflatables and do free haircuts. It’s a big event and the school supplies will be distributed then.”
Into the first week of August, a box is set up at Walgreens for you to make your donation with any items that you wish.
“You can go by Walgreens and all you have to do is purchase the product, and Walgreens puts it back for us,” Dunn said. “They have a box and container to keep everything that is donated in. If somebody has something from somewhere else, they can bring it by the office anytime. Just let us know what it is for when it is dropped off.”
Dunn explained that the department has taken donations before for school supplies and other items, but this is the first year they have partnered with a local business.
“We have a lot of businesses that help us out any time that we need it, and Walgreens is one of those that try to help out,” he said. “We are supposed to help our community. That is in our job description. That is what we are supposed to do.”
The community is encouraged to help in any way that you can.
“We wanted to get involved and help in a small way,” Dunn said. “We are just trying to give our school supplies to any kid that needs it.”
There are several ways that you can contribute to the cause. You can make a purchase at Walgreens and leave in the donation box or if you purchase items from other stores, you can drop them off at the Pineville Police Department during daily office hours.
