BARBOURVILLE — Four members of the Union College football team earned a spot on the 2019 Kentucky Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team, the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame announced.
Linebacker Demonte Bell, running back Justin Gardner, offensive lineman Chandler Love, and offensive lineman Jordan Mason each received the honor. This marks the first time each has collected this award.
In addition, Gardner was one of seven recipients of the 2019 Blanton Collier Leading with Character Award.
The Blanton Collier Leading with Character Award is a preseason recognition award for Mid-South Conference (MSC) football student-athletes attending a Kentucky college or university. This is the third year for this annual award. The Blanton Collier Leading with Character award represents the best college football players that the state of Kentucky has to offer. These players’ dedication to the game has contributed significantly to their teams.
Each individual selected to receive this award is a role model for their fellow teammates as well as everyone else they come in contact with. These players exemplify trust, respect, excellence, accountability, caring, confidence, and optimism.
The four Bulldogs were recognized for their accomplishments at the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday.
This is the fourth year in a row Union has placed at least three players on the All-Commonwealth Team.
Union finished the 2018 season 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the MSC Appalachian Division. The Bulldogs open the 2019 campaign on Aug. 29 at NCAA Division I Morehead State University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
