Middlesboro High School and first year head coach Larry French wrapped up their football camp on Tuesday, after two days of camp. The camp was for grades 1-8 and was free to attend.
“We’ve had a lot of fun the past few days,” said French. “The campers had a lot of fun, the coaches had a lot of fun and the campers got to learn a little bit about football and we got to learn a little bit about what kind of talent we have here in Middlesboro. It’s been a fun couple of days, and we look forward to doing it again and just making it bigger and better.
“We had some great sponsors. We had seven people that sponsored us and several businesses that sponsored us. Thanks to all of them, we were able to put on the camp for free. It didn’t cost the community anything or the parents. We were able to give out medals, t-shirts and footballs, so anything we can do to get young people interested in playing the game of football is a plus for us. This is a positive step. We are headed in the right direction.
“The future of Middlesboro football is bright. We’ve got some very talented kids coming up, and we’ve got a lot of community support. We’ve just got to make sure we have players that are committed, willing to work hard and do some things that they haven’t done in the past. We’ve got to make a positive change around here and start winning some ball games and that will help more than anything.”
