Middlesboro suffers first regular-season loss to Whitley.

After falling behind early in the game, the Lady Jackets suffered their first loss of the regular season to the Whitley County Lady Colonels on Monday, 12-2.
The Lady Colonels got things going in the first inning, scoring a run off a single by senior Jezni Huddleston.
Middlesboro tied things up in the second inning at one run apiece scoring off a single by freshman Jamarah Young.
Whitley County began to separate from the Lady Jackets in the bottom of the second inning, adding four runs and extending their lead to 5-1. The Lady Colonels never relinquished the lead as they added four more runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Middlesboro managed only one more run throughout the duration of the game on a single by Macey Mink in the top of the fourth.
Whitley’s Katy Powers led the way for the Lady Colonels in Monday night’s win, driving in four RBI on three hits.
It was a tough night pitching for the Lady Jackets as Whitley County tallied 15 hits on the night, with three Lady Colonels ending the game with three hits.
Lindsey Shope picked up the win for the Lady Colonels inside the circle. Shope pitched for six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Middlesboro’s Hannah McCullough took the loss for the Lady Jackets, allowing nine runs on nine hits in three innings. She also accumulated four strikeouts.
The Middlesboro Lady Jackets took on North Laurel Lady Jaguars on Thursday at home.
The Lady Colonels traveled to take on Somerset on Thursday.
