Officers with the Middlesboro Police Department arrested a local man on five warrants during a traffic stop Wednesday morning. Officer Nick Capps arrested 27-year-old Jonathan Widener after pulling him over for his license plate not being illuminated.
According to the arrest citation, Capps states that he was aware that Widener had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
When Widener opened the door of the vehicle, Capps reports that he allegedly had a digital scale hanging out of his right pocket. Dispatch confirmed that he did have five warrants active for his arrest.
Upon further search, it was discovered that he had a container with $100 cash inside and a distribution bag. With the assistance of officer Joel Quillen, the two officers discovered a roll of toilet paper in his crotch area that had a baggy with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The substance weighed approximately 24 grams. Officers also found an oxycodone pill.
Widener remains in the Bell County Detention Center and is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served with five bench warrants and has a cash bond of $5,175.
