Two days after a heart-breaking loss at Pineville, the Middlesboro Lady Jackets fell to McCreary Central on the road Thursday night, 66-45. McCreary Central (8-17) has opened up the month of February at 2-0, while Middlesboro (10-16) is 1-2.
“We came out flat,” said Middlesboro coach Scott Overbay. “We just couldn’t get anything going at all it seemed. We’re still trying to adjust to losing senior Lakyn King. She tore her ACL against Pineville and is out for the season. That’s a huge blow to the team, and we already miss her on the court.”
Kailey Owens scored 18 points to lead Middlesboro, while Elizabeth Anderson had 20 and Allyson Anderson added 17 for McCreary Central.
Middlesboro’s offense came out stagnant, scoring only nine points in the opening period. Middlesboro’s offensive woes continued into the second quarter, as they were outscored 20-9.
The Lady Jacket offense came alive in the third quarter, scoring a game-high 19 points. Even after outscoring the Lady Raiders 19-14 in the period, Middlesboro still trailed by 15. The Lady Jacket offense couldn’t maintain its offensive consistency in the final quarter, ultimately losing by 21.
