For the past few weeks, unfortunate weather had threatened to put a damper on Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series with drizzling rain and dark clouds.

This week proved to be a welcomed respite from the gloomy weather with clear skies and mild temperatures — excellent weather for an outdoor concert.

This week’s show drew yet another impressively large crowd as songwriting dynamo Caleb Caudle came to town to give the community a night of free live music.

“I was probably 14 or 15 when I started playing music,” said Caudle.

He spoke of mimicking his older brother, who also played music until he branched out on his own.

“I realized that it was something that could be really helpful for me, mentally…so it was really nice to just try and get things out. I got hooked at an early age doing that,” he said.

When Caudle was younger he was hooked on the punk scene, and later in life fell in love with country, Americana, bluegrass, jazz and other genres.

Caudle’s latest album “Crushed Coins” is a departure from his previous album, which he called “very country.”

“I just wanted to mix it up and do whatever felt right to each individual song. I was also listening to a ton of Beatles and ton of Beach Boys…really just exploring a bunch of different sounds and just seeing what worked,” said Caudle.

Caudle and his band are touring the country, and even overseas, all year. He stated they are playing about 200 shows this year.
