Be aware of back to school traffic

School is back in session and with that comes a friendly reminder from the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
It can be easy to let the summer months lull you into a pattern, but it’s always good to remember that once school starts back up, everyday activities need time to adjust —notably, traffic.
With school comes traffic in the morning and the afternoon hours. This includes parents dropping their children off and picking them up, buses and students driving themselves to school.
The sheriff’s office stated that all motorists should remind themselves to be alert and use caution when driving on school bus routes and through school zones — as children can tend to run into the roadway.
For school buses, all traffic coming from both directions are expected to come to a full stop for school buses when they are loading and unloading students. This is law for all roadways. If this law is broken and a motorist passes a stopped school buses while it is handling students, that motorist is subject to citation.
The sheriff’s office also noted that students as well are responsible for their safety, and they are encouraged to learn and respect proper safety concerns and rules when walking home or taking the bus.
