Being only the middle of July, not many kids want to think about going back to school. Shopping for new clothes and school supplies is the preamble that tells a child that the first day back to class is approaching.
Going back to school does not, however, need to be a bummer. Downtown Middlesboro will be host to a Back to School Block Party on Aug. 3 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
First, the community is encouraged to donate school supplies to a number of locations that include the Bell County Chamber of Commerce Office, the Main Street Middlesboro Office, The Big One 106.3 FM station, Beacon of Light and David Whitlock’s office of Edward Jones. The address for Whitlock’s office is 1932 Cumberland Avenue.
Not only will school supplies be given out, but activities for the kids will be available as well that includes bounce houses, giveaways and music will be provided by Brian O’Brien of The Big One. There will a street dance, local crafters and businesses set up as well.
“The community is coming together to give the kids a special event for going back to school. Everyone of all ages are welcome to come out and have a time,” said Middlesboro Main Street Director Emily Ayers.
The week of Aug. 3 will prove to be a busy one for the community at that as the night before the Back to School Block Party will feature a Levitt AMP Your City Music Series performance. The day after the block party will feature the fourth annual Wing Fling.
