A reason to smile

It can be heartening to a community to see businesses in their city reach out to help their fellow neighbors. On June 9, Aspen Dental in Middlesboro will be joining 500 other Aspen Dentals from around then nation in the Day of Service.
The Day of Service is a day when absolutely free dental care will be provided to veterans. This will be the fifth annual Day of Service in the company’s history.
According to an official press release on the event, the impetus for this event stems from the fact that some veterans face difficulty in finding oral health care. Some veterans are not eligible for benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA) unless they are certified as 100 percent disabled, have a mouth injury that is service related or were a prisoner of war.
The Day of Service event is part of a wider initiative called the Health Mouth Movement — a community-focused initiative that gives free dental care and dental health education to veterans.
“Day of Service means so much to me because I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it is for veterans to access the dental care they desperately need,” said Dr. Jere Gillan, an Aspen Dental practice owner in Florida and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. “I’m honored to be part of an organization that is so committed to making a difference in the lives of some very deserving people – our nation’s veterans.”
Appointments for the Day of Service are required and are on a first come, first served basis. To make an appointment call 1-844-277-3646.
