Locals compete at state track meet

Several local track athletes topped off their successful seasons by competing in the Kentucky State Track Meet at the UK Track and Field Complex in Lexington. While no one was able to earn a first place trophy, the county did send 11 single competitors and seven relay teams to the event.
In Class A competition, Middlesboro’s Corey Hariston was the lone participant for the boys to earn a top five finish. He placed fifth in the long jump behind Pikeville’s Evan Rhodes, Mayfield’s Kyle Hurt, Prestonsburg’s Drake Nunnery and Morgan County’s Michael Prater.
On the girls side, Lady Jacket Timesha Brooks took fifth place in the shot put in Class A. Harlan’s Mackenzie King took first place in the event.
In Class AA, Bell County had five top 10 finishes at the meet. Mitchell Miracle had the highest finish among the school placing seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:36.37.
Caden Miracle edged Mitchell in the 3200-meter run with Caden finishing eighth with a time of 10:23.47. Mitchell finished ninth with a time of 10:28.97.
The Bell County 4×200 relay team of Tanner Asher, Jason Jones, Colby Fraizer and Ashlund Dennis placed seventh in the event just behind the Glasgow relay team. The relay team of Mitchell Miracle, Caden Miracle, Andrew Caldwell and Dawson Atkins placed eighth in the 4×800.
Below are the results of each local participant that made it to the finals of the state competition:
Class A — Boys
Middlesboro
Alex Mason placed 16th in the 100-meter dash;
Corey Hariston placed 19th in the 200-meter dash;
Steven Poore placed 18th in the 400-meter dash;
4×100 relay team finished 19th;
4×200 relay team finished 18th;
Hariston finished fifth in long jump.
Pineville
Ethan Smith finished 22nd in the 800-meter run;
Sean Whitehead finished 21st in the 300-meter hurdles;
4×400 relay team finished 21st.
Class A — Girls
Middlesboro
Grace Rose finished 20th in 800-meter run;
Mallory James finished 22nd in 1600-meter run;
4×800 relay team finished ninth in event;
Timesha Brooks finished fifth in shot put.
Class AA — Boys
Bell County
Mitchell Miracle finished seventh in 1600-meter run and ninth in 3200-meter run;
Caden Miracle finished eighth in 3200-meter run;
4×200 relay team finished seventh;
4×400 relay team finished 16th;
4×800 relay team finished eighth;
Keagan Lefevers finished 15th in shot put.
