Boys wanting to learn the fundamentals of basketball will have the opportunity starting next week. The Middlesboro boys basketball camp will began on May 22 and run through May 25 at the Middlesboro High School Gymnasium.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday. The cost for the participating in the camp is $50. The camp will be directed by Yellow Jacket coach Lewis Morris with the help of Middlesboro coaches and other volunteers.

The camp will have an emphasis on teaching fundamental basketball skills that will help young players develop into better basketball players. It will focus on teaching players the importance of hard work and team concepts, according to the brochure.

According to the release, fundamentals such as ball handling, passing, pivoting, shooting, rebounding and defensive techniques will be stressed throughout the week. Guest speakers will present motivational stories and offer daily clinics.

Camp activities will include: basketball drills and station work, free-throw contest, three-point competition, hot shot competition, three-on-three team play and five-on-five team play.

The release states that daily prizes will be awarded to winners of specific competitions. There will also be a “Camper of the Week” award given to the camper that demonstrates the best attitude, work ethic and effort during the week.

Campers will be expected to follow camp rules. Campers must abide by the rules and follow the direction of all camp staff. Anyone that cannot follow the rules, places themselves or others at risk will be dismissed immediately from camp.
