Brennan Murphy has been showcasing his talents on the mound for most of the year. The Cumberland Gap sophomore just picked up his fifth Maxpreps Player of the Game honor for a game against West Greene on March 20.
Murphy has definitely put up impressive numbers during his second year with the Panthers. He is currently ranked first in Tennessee in ERA among sophomores and 13th nationally. Those numbers include an ERA of 0.91 through 46 innings pitched. He has also tallied 32 strikeouts with only five walks and six earned runs.
Nationally, his ERA ranks right behind Brooks Gorman of Tattnall Square Academy out of Macon, Georgia — who boast an ERA of 0.87.
Murphy has impressed at the district-level as well. Against Greeneville, West Greene, Grainger and Claiborne, the sophomore has allowed zero earned runs while also garnering 14 strikeouts. Through 28 innings, he has allowed 20 hits and walked just three batters.
A snapshot of Murphy’s abilities was on showcase during Cumberland Gap’s recent game against Claiborne. While the Panthers lost to the Bulldogs in the first half of the doubleheader, the sophomore kept Claiborne in check while he was on the mound.
Through nine innings, Murphy allowed only four hits while striking out three batters. He did not allow one walk during his time on the mound. The Bulldogs tallied only one unearned run during that stretch.
