Lady Jackets rout Lynn Camp, 22-7

For a minute, Lynn Camp looked like they may be able to extend what was a four-game winning streak when they traveled to Middlesboro on Thursday. Then the Lady Jackets took the plate in the bottom half of the first and rattled off nine runs with relative ease.
The game was never in question after that as the Lady Jackets reeled of 11 runs in the second before a walk-off double by Virginia Marcum ended the game in the third with Middlesboro earning the 22-7 victory.
The win continues the Lady Jackets’ recent trail of success putting the team on a three-game winning streak following back-to-back wins over Barbourville in their previous two games.
Middlesboro couldn’t miss at the plate tallying 16 hits on the day. All but one player in the starting line-up scored at least two runs during the game.
Hannah McCullough and Aubrey Sowders finished as the leaders at the plate. McCullough went 3-for-3 while finishing with three runs and three RBIs. Aubrey Sowders ended the day in similar fashion scoring three runs and tallying three RBIs on three hits.
Poe finished with three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Myra Gent, Macy Mink, Taylor Yoakum, Brooke Foister and Shelby Frazier each crossed home plate multiple times as well.
McCullough picked up the victory in the circle allowing only three hits and three runs with four strikeouts across two innings. Gent came in for relief in the third inning.
Makenzie Grant paced Lynn Camp at the plate going 2-for-2 with two runs.
Things looked promising for the Lady Wildcats early in the first. After Halle Mills struck out to start the game, an RBI single by Grant gave Lynn Camp a 1-0 lead. After reaching on a single, Erin Holland scored on a throwing error to increase their lead to 2-0.
Grant crossed home plate on an RBI single by Hailey Mills to give the Lady Wildcats a 3-0 advantage.
Middlesboro took over from there. An RBI single by Mink cut the lead to two runs. An RBI single by Sowders cut the deficit to 3-2 before a two-run triple by Poe gave the Jackets a 4-3 lead with no outs on the board. Poe eventually scored on a single by Yoakum to increase the lead to 5-3.
Yoakum, Foister, Frazier and McCullough scored before the inning came to an end giving the Lady Jackets a 9-3 lead.
After a quick at-bat by Lynn Camp, Middlesboro continued their onslaught at the plate tallying 11 runs with most of them coming with two outs on the board. An RBI single by McCullough ended the second with the Lady Jackets leading 20-3.
Middlesboro put the second team in at the start of the third inning. That gave Lynn Camp a chance to put some runs on the board. An RBI double by Katie Miller narrowed the deficit to 20-4.
The Lady Wildcats scored three more runs to close out the top half of the inning trailing by 13 runs.
The Jackets ended the game in the third. Gent crossed home after an RBI by Grace Moles to increase the lead to 21-7. The game concluded with a walk-off RBI by Marcum that secured the 15-run victory.

Middlesboro (5-2) traveled to Harlan (6-2) on Friday. They will host Clay County (7-0) at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Lynn Camp (6-3) participated in the Martin’s Peterbilt Classic at Jackson County on Friday.
