Pineville’s Jill Enix will get the opportunity to showcase her abilities at the collegiate level. On Tuesday, the Lady Lion standout signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Midway University.

“I’m just really excited. I always knew I was going to get to play no matter what happened as long as injuries didn’t happen,” said Enix. “I’m just really excited that I’m going to get to go somewhere close to home. I love the campus. It’s small just like where I grew up. That’s what I’m really excited about.”

Midway head coach John Kenger — who was present at the signing — said what caught his eye about Enix was her ability to play multiple positions on the floor. The third-year coach also said the Eagles are losing three post players, and they feel like Enix could be an instant contributor.

“(Jill’s) height caught our eye, and then after looking a little bit deeper we saw that she can play everything from the two to the five,” said Kenger. “That’s really exciting for us and the way that we want to play basketball over at Midway. We like to get up and down (the court).

“We love her length, her ability to shoot from the outside and score inside left and right. She handles the ball like a guard. She can play big like a post, so she’s kind of a Jill of all trades. We’re excited about what she’s going to bring to the team, and we just have really high expectations. We think she’s going to add a ton to what we’re trying to do and where we’re trying to go in the future.”

Kenger said he believes that Enix will have the opportunity to play early due to her work ethic, coachability and basketball IQ.

Enix has earned multiple postseason awards and accolades since she began playing for Pineville High School. This past year, she won the Player of the Year award for the 51st District given away by the media. She also earned spots on the All-13th Region team by both the media and the 13th Region Basketball Coaches Association.

Enix was an instant difference maker at Pineville beginning her freshman year. She has led the team in points and rebounds for all four years. She saw her numbers increase gradually each season.

As a freshman, Enix averaged 9.6 points and 7.0 rebounds. As a sophomore, those numbers increased to 13 points and 7.6 rebounds. Her junior season saw the Pineville standout average 13.9 points and nine rebounds.

During her senior season, Enix put together one of her best years averaging 16.1 points and 11.8 rebounds. Her rebounding numbers placed her just outside the top 1o in the state in rebounds.

All in all, Enix finished her career with 1,694 points, 1,218 rebounds, 453 assists, 275 steals and 139 blocks. She helped lead Pineville to two 13th Region tournament appearances and one 51st District title.

“Her biggest attribute is…she never quits playing hard. If the shot don’t go, she’s rebounding and she’s doing all the hustle stuff,” said Pineville coach Jamie Mills about Enix. “A lot of the kids, if the shot doesn’t go their done for the night. (Jill) battles no matter what.

“She knows the game really well. She does those things you can’t really teach. She will definitely be missed, not just her points but her rebounds. The girls could always go to her when they needed something. You need that go-to person, and she didn’t mind being that. Every since she was a freshman, she was kind of that person.”

Enix plans to study education and hopefully one day be a coach.

Midway participates in the River States Conference in NAIA. The team finished with a 17-14 record this past season while going 9-9 in conference play. The Eagles finished third in the western division of the conference. Other teams in the west division include: Alice Lloyd, IU Southeast, Brescia, Asbury, IU Kokomo and Cincinnati Christian.
