No. 24 Union surges past St. Andrews for AAC victory

LAURINBURG, N.C. — No .24 Union College used a big second half to turn a halftime deficit into a 77-58 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over host St. Andrews on Saturday.
With the win, Union improves to 13-7 overall and 10-3 in league play. St. Andrews falls to 3-11 overall and 3-10 in the AAC.
The Bulldogs led for much of the first half, owning a 31-21 lead with 4:33 left. However, the Knights closed out the period on a 14-1 run in taking a 35-32 advantage into the break.
Coming out of the half, Union embarked on an 8-0 run to grab a 40-35 lead with 16:42 remaining. St. Andrews got the margin back down to 42-41, but Union went on a 22-8 stretch in opening up a 64-49 cushion.
From that point on, it was all Bulldogs.
A 9-1 spurt pushed the margin to 22 points at 77-55. A Knight 3-pointer close out the scoring to make the final 77-58.
Stuart Jackson and Dominique Lindsey paced Union with 19 points apiece. Jackson hauled in a team-high nine rebounds with Lindsey dishing out a game-high eight assists. Lance Blakely added 13 points, while Jakobe Wharton came off the bench to knock in 11.
Darius Huff led the Knights with 13 points, and Christian Lathan followed with 11.
Nearly half of St. Andrews points came from the charity stripe as it connected on 28-of-36 free throws. Union held its own at the line, going 14-of-21.
