The Middlesboro Board of Education will have a special board meeting at noon on Oct. 27 at the Middlesboro Board of Education, 220 North 20th Street.
Middlesboro Middle School cheerleaders will host a CHILI DINNER from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the school cafeteria before the MHS vs. Williamsburg football game. Dinners are $5 and include bowl of chili, chips, crackers, cheese, dessert, soda or water. There will also be a silent auction.

Old Yellow Creek Baptist Church, 225 South 38th Street, Middlesboro, will hosts its eighth annual TRUNK OR TREAT beginning at 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 for ages 14 and under in costume.

Indian Creek Baptist Church’s fifth Sunday SINGING at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29 featuring special singing by God’s Three and others. Everyone is welcome, and lunch will be served following the service.

The town of Cumberland Gap will host a pumpkin CARVING CONTEST. Showcase your talent and win prizes: First place – $75 plus one hour dance party from the Pineapple Tea Room; second place – $50 plus $25 gift certificate from Gap Creek Coffee House; third place – $25 plus large specialty pizza from Angelo’s in the Gap. Bring your carved pumpkin to Festival Park (downtown on Colwyn Street) by 6 p.m. on Oct. 30. Pumpkins will be displayed Oct. 30-31. Trick or treat hours are from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Don’t forget to write name and phone number on backside of pumpkin. The open of the pumpkin should be on the bottom (using this method allows organizers to place the carved pumpkin over a candle).

October is ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH, and Friends of the Bell County Animal Shelter (FOS) will pay half of the adoption fee for any dog adopted from the shelter in the month of October. The fee is normally $70, so for the entire month of October anyone who wants to adopt a dog, they will only have to pay $35. That price includes a spay or neuter and the dogs first round of shots.

Middlesboro ARH Hospital will hold a NURSING JOB FAIR on Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. inside the hospital’s main entrance. Licensed nurses and nursing students can meet with clinical management and HR to discuss current job opportunities during the job fair. Please bring a copy of current certifications. The Bell County Job Club will meet for eight weeks at the Middlesboro-Bell County Public LIbrary. The club meets each Thursday. Cumberland Chapter No. 170 of the Order of the Eastern Star will have a TURKEY DINNER from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at Martin’s Station Masonic Lodge on Dr. Thomas Walker Road, one mile west of Rose Hill. Menu will be turkey and all the trimmings, drinks and dessert. The cost is $8, for adults; $5, ages 5-12; under 5 is free. Carry out meals are $8. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.

Pineville Chapter No. 89 ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR will meet Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the masonic building in Pineville. The meeting will be preceded with a meal at 6 p.m.

Pine Mountain State Resort Park will host FLY FISHING WEEKEND Nov. 11-12. Learn to fly fish — choosing equipment, fly selection, reading a stream, casting, hooking and landing a fish in the solitude of the autumn mountains. Participants will receive one night’s lodging, Saturday continental breakfast and Sunday stream side lunch. Stream side classroom includes: On-stream instructions, fly box, six flies, loaner rods and reels. The package cost is $189, individual; or $295, couple. Free saliva-based drug testing kits are provided and sponsored through UNITE and Stand in the Gap Coalition (SIGCO). Give Me a Reason (GMAR) is designed for parents/guardians to use to talk with their children and randomly test them, which gives them a reason to say no when tempted or offered drugs. Kits can be obtained at 44 different distribution points (DP) throughout the Tri-State area and at the SIGCO office, located at 502 Pennlyn Avenue in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. The American RED CROSS is seeking volunteers with flexible schedules to respond to single and multi-family home fires in the Lake Cumberland service area which includes Casey, Adair, Cumberland, Clinton, Russell, Pulaski, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Laurel, Clay, Knox, Bell and Harlan counties. Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers respond to assist families with shelter, support and access to basic needs immediately following a home fire – often arriving on scene even as the fire is still burning.
